There is nothing quite like the purry euphoria that ensues when a pusscat is returned safe and home from the vet's.  Jess always used to purr ecstatically whenever she returned home, and these two are no different.   (They went for more vet-stabbings this morning - this time Leukaemia jabs - and the minute they were released back into the warm living room, they leapt onto their furry comfort blanket and purred and kneaded solidly for about 2 hours).  The cold weather has made them cuddlier than ever, and I have just had a total love-in with Truffle-bear.

Meanwhile, the weather took a very exciting turn today and went all blizzardy outside the window.  Not the usual, slightly wet, unsettley snow that we've had of late... but proper, fluffy, cotton-wool snow that settled immediately, so that a mere 30 mins later everything was coated in 2 inches of white.  (Sigh!)  The kittens were mesmerised by it, and the forecast says we're in for more this week - hoorah!

In a little while I shall be shlepping across the snow into Covent Garden to meet some friends for dinner.  We're going to 32 Great Queen Street, a marvellous discovery of Sara Lou's, which specialises in modern British food but has my favourite kind of atmosphere (that sort of informal, sligtly genteel bustle that you typically get in French Bistros).  My taste buds are doing weird things at the moment so I have no idea what I will be eating.

On another foodie topic, last night I had Sara and Phil over for dinner and kitten-wrangling.  (I think Phil and I may be secret siblings because, apart from sharing the same colouring and dreadful long-sightedness, we are also both afflicted with a deep-rooted propensity for cat-bothering).  Anyway I tried out a couple of Ottolenghi recipes from the Guardian, which were of the sort of recipes that look ultra-simple on a plate but take 300 steps to prepare and the sort of ingredients that nobody has - like pomegrate molasses  (I used thick, sweet balsamic instead).   It took until 9pm for me to "rustle up" what was effectively a platter of mixed salads with bread and baby roasties....  but, by god, they were tasty.  I def recommend these two recipes, should you feel the urge to eat something a little less wintry over the xmas period:

Tomorrow I am on pressie-wrapping duty and will also be assembling a wooden doll's cot for Helena's 2nd birthday.  *Rubs hands with mini flatpack glee!*

Oh the joy of joys!  I am a lady of leisure until after Xmas.  I shall undoubtedly fritter it away on foolish time-wasting activites.  But what bliss.

Yay for lady of leisureness :-)

Yay for cat snuggling - Mapp came and purred on me earlier for a bit, entirely unbidden by me and it was so lovely. We still can't pick her up but she has become ever so snuggly and now lets us touch her tummy and her paws as well.

Mom's kitten is very yowly but super cute. She has 'tortitude' big time. I was quite fraught as I have barely found a rescue place for the stray cat Mom has. I was worried it was going to have to spend the winter in her barn freezing.

Enjoy being all xmasylike
