Squeeee... the kittens have moved in. G and I picked them up this morning.
They've spent the day adjusting, and are becoming a little bit frisky after about 9 hours.
As early as possible they located the warm, secluded chair seats under the dining table and ensconced themselves there for safety and a snooze. I strategically ignored them for a couple of hours, until they began to emerge.
Harriet (bless her) is really dinky. She's also unrelentingly cute. I'd defy anyone to look at that little face and not melt with squee. She's also the bolder and friendlier of the two, venturing into new areas of the room or corridor with her larger sister Truffle slinking along anxiously behind her. She's the first to do everything - including use the litter tray. The minute she went in it, Truffle followed her. She's like Harriet's larger shadow.
At one point, while Harriet was falling asleep, I kissed her on the head, and she began to purr... (it was the first and only purr I've had from either of them!)

Unfortunately Truffle is still more of a sad, scaredy bear, but I think she just needs a bit of time to get used to us. She cringes away from being stroked or picked up, but will quite happily come out to play and chase things (I had some fun with a laser pointer earlier). If she catches me watching her or looking at her with intent for cat-bothering, she becomes very nervous and wary. I am trying not to look at her too closely, but to keep her in my peripheral vision until she relaxes. I hope I can win her over slowly.

Right now both of them are scampering up and down the arm of the sofa as I type, which is excellent progress!
It's been hard to photograph them today without freaking them out. But I will try to get decent pcs and post them soon.

Date: 2010-10-21 07:59 pm (UTC)Don't worry about Truffle. We had a kitten who kept himself under the storage heater for a couple of days and within a few weeks he turned into a headcase - getting stuck up trees and inviting numerous friends round for a munch.
