Is anyone watching the great Brit bake off?

I'm watching it in dribs and drabs on iPlayer.

Main comment so far is that the beardy judge is such a pompous ass. Every time he spouts off with "I've made scones at all of the best hotels in London" G takes pleasure in finishing his sentence with "...in my room". (Tee hee for childish pleasures)

Also I was sad for the bus driver who kept crying (mainly because Sue Perkins goaded him shamelessly with tear-triggers like... "this must be utterly soul crushing for you. How does it make you feel?") And then after being made to blub the poor chap got booted off. (aww)

Mary Berry is so old school, I love her. She's the supreme queen of baking.

I am also pleased to report that everyone on the show pronounces scone to rhyme with gone... as do all sensible people (not including G)

I saw some of it on Tuesday. That beardy fella annoyed me and I couldn't put my finger on why. He just seemed full of himself.

I can never remember how I pronounce scone! Is that weird? There's a possiblity I pronounce it skon or skohn depending on where I am...

You and Delia both. G and I once tried to settle it once and for all by seing how Delia pronouces it, but on the same show she said it both ways at random... (probably the only safe way to prevent an influx of "Dear Auntie Beeb" letters)

Ahahaha, that's good to know. I think. Delia's a southerner and they don't talk proper. ;p

I'm watching it!
Paul Hollywood does come across as a bit pompous, doesn't he? Myu problem with him and Mary Berry, and in fact the whole program, is that it's all far too serious. Baking is supposed to relaxing and fun and nice, not stressy and intense and very very SRS BZNS! It makes me very glad I had to pull out!

You're right about that. It's no wonder the poor old bus driver had a breakdown in such a serious atmosphere. (I would have watched it far moer avidly if you were in it)

YES! That's what I was trying to put my finger on - it's all a bit po-faced and serious and not really in the spirit of baking.

It's like 'Masterchef is popular, let's do another version, WITH CAKE!'.

I pronounce scone as in loan :-)

I'm watching the bake off, even if beardy bloke talks a lot of self promoting tosh, someone described it as a kind of pastry based Radio 4 Big Brother with an overdose of twee. The chocolate biscuits I made last night would have been dismissed as too cakey and they are but they are also very tasty :-)

I was sad the marmalade loaf man got kicked out and that they kept the shaven haired far too intense for his own good bloke instead. I've also taken an irrational dislike to the lady with blonde hair who made biscuits in the shape of shoes..

The shaven headed one is like Jason Statham with David Beckham's voice.

The shoe-biscuit woman looks like a character from Wallace and Grommit drawn by Posy Simmonds.
