Twiglet zone
Jul. 26th, 2010 06:30 pmAm experiencing bizarre universe convergence this week as Imperial is hosting a major UK knitting event... in my very own work building, no less. Most disconcerting of all was an email announcing that "spinning wheels can be stored in the cloakroom on level 1" ... there's just something delightfully Hogwartian about it all.
I imagine the students will be a tad bemused on Thursday when the building is invaded by swarms of people wielding pointy sticks and lining up for book signings and design classes with sleb knitters. On the other hand, this lot will probably love it.
I'm not booked onto any sessions myself, but I know with resigned certainty that fluff will somehow sneak its way into my bag. Try as I might, I will be unable to ignore an entire hall full of luxury fibre. It will stalk me...
If nothing else, I intend to:
a) Fondle some Qiviuk, which is v. rare and supposedly twice as soft as cashmere (and four times as expensive).*
b) Ogle the Nichols stand (limited edition glass couture buttons from the 1950s, costing about £30 each - yikes).
* this is still far from the world's most expensive yarn. I think that record might be held by Vicuna (currently for sale at $299 a ball even though it only comes in diarrhea brown...)
