Good morning fiends.  I was an early bird again today...   (my Sunday morning kitchen/coffee/Spotify experience is becoming a regular thing and may just be the best part of the week).

Music Q:  what is the best song that has claps in it?  Y'know, like Safety Dance and so on.  I noticed Ladyhawke uses this trick quite a bit and I'm a total sucker for it.  Do recommend!  I might do a hand-clap playlist...

Cooking Q:  Today I have a bag of apricots...  any suggestions for things to do with them?  (Obv I am aware of the option of just eating them out of the paper bag, but y'know...  any fancier ideas welcome)

This week I am mostly loving the fact that [livejournal.com profile] rosamicula's big white plates and bowls make everything we cook look amazing, like haute cuisine.   Last night we had seared strips of tuna steak in hoi sin sauce on a bed of wilted bok choi and sliced sugar snap peas.   It took about 3 minutes to cook and tasted divine...  WIN!

Yesterday I finished a hat.  Totally out of season, but I'll love it when autumn comes along.  It's a gorgeous, soft, cabley thing designed by Jared Flood.   I may post pics later... (assuming I haven't buggered it up by washing it).

Had a lovely evening at 32 Great Queen Street on Friday night,  to say happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] sara_lou.  Ticklemore salad, sea trout, samphire, salted caramel ice cream.  Mmm.  And, my, that restaurant KNOWS what to do with horseradish.

Ooh my brek is ready.  Offski for now!

I guess it's too summery to halve them, sprinkle sugar over the top and grill them, then serve them with fromage frais.

Mmmm, I think that could still work in summer. Would you add anything to the sugar? (vanilla pod?)

Vanilla or cinnamon maybe.

I was thinking along those lines. Fill with cream cheese/fromage frais and sprinkle with crushed amaretti biscuits, then bake for a bit.

Could you do something morocanny with them? Couscous with apricots perhaps?

Ah, now that's a great idea. (Though I have yet to convince G of the merits of fruit in savoury dishes)

Tell G fruit in savoury is okay but what isn't is lettuce in a curry. Pandy's Mum once cooked us lettuce curry - I kid you not. She doesn't like to waste things you see. Which is a laudable and good idea but sometimes the outcomes aren't good.

She once gave us bread to feed the ducks that was mostly bright green, I couldn't have duck genocide on my hands so chucked the bright green stuff in the bin and Pandy almost had to physically restrain her from diving in the bin to rescue it. In fact it was only when he told her the bin was full of dog pooh that she decided (still very reluctantly) to leave it where it was.

The time to worry about waste is when things are still edible...

Oh god... lettuce curry.
My mum also used to suffer terribly from "waste not".

Lettuce curry was as bad as it sounds, no hang on it was worse.

That was exactly what I was going to suggest!

Did I misunderstand the comment that Kriss left on FB or are you really looking like Servalan if she'd chosen to join the WI? That's an arresting image if ever there was one!

Happy birthday, btw!

Thank you, I don't think Mr Pops took a pic of me wearing the fabulous apron the lovely and talented Kriss has made me else I'd post one so I shall just have to describe it instead. It is a fifties style one with slightly standing out shoulders, slightly flared skirt, pockets and criss cross over the should straps. It is black with silver trim and has skulls on!!!!!! It is so very fabulous and looks exactly like the kind of thing Servalan would have worn if she'd ever bothered to bake instead of just trying to rule the universe and kill Blake.

IS - The Peach Boys - Don't Make Me Wait

And yes that is Peach Boys - not Beach Boys spelt incorrectly

Also Mann Parish's Hip Hop Bebop is a great one - but it's kinda electronic clapping so I am not sure if it will count!

At the Gin Palace I have lovely white crockery - a bit chipped - from the hotel. It makes all my gorgeous fruit and curry look even more gorgeous.
