Just popping in...
Jul. 5th, 2010 01:12 pmGood afternoon fiends. It feels like ages since I visited these parts. Am trying to remember what I've been up to but am struggling to recall much detail...
I think that life has consisted mainly of work trips, marvellous evenings with non-LJ people, meeting new LJ ladies and trying to cram in last-minute socialising with rosamicula before she skips off into the tropical sunset (Woe!) On that note, I had a lovely, relaxed ladies' night last Wed with Rosa and
sara_lou , while G was off gallivanting in Paris. We ate and drank nice things in my fav local French Bistro and then shuffled back to my place to loll around on sofas and get squiffy (in an entirely civilised manner, of course.) Oh, Miss Louis, I will so miss you when you are gone.
G and I spent the weekend in Sidmouth attending a garden party at his mum's house (to celebrate her husband's 70th). Due to the large number of guests, we stayed in a hotel on the waterfront and were delighted to discover that our room had a balcony overlooking the sea ((PIC)). G took one look at the view and promptly nodded off, so I decided to mooch around some nearby shops. Despite the fact that these were about 20 yards away, it took me ten whole minutes to get there behind 3 walking sticks and two zimmer frames. This called to mind a very funny, high-action chase scene from 'The Man Who Was Thursday' involving a doddery old man with a stick. (I suspect that scene also became the inspiration for an episode in David Baddiel's 'Time for Bed', where a man tries urgently to escape an old lady with a zimmer frame inside an old people's home).
Unfortunately our hotel was one of those that insists on keeping uncivilised hours at weekends, with breakfast from 8:30 - 9:30am and check out by 10:30. G was unable to drag me downstairs at such an ungodly hour, hence we failed to discover whether the breakfast was worth the money.
On Sunday we were able to show Helena the sea for the first time. She's showing signs of turning into a cheery little soul, and I'm pleased to report that knitted Mrs Cartman has proven to be a hit. (This is largely because any toy that is remotely humanoid is a hit with Helena, but I'm not complaining.)
Anyway I posted some weekend pics on FB, for anyone interested. (Last night while browsing these I noticed that I'd spent much of Sunday with a cleavage-related wardrobe malfunction. G's family may well have assumed that I was aiming for the bordello look. Oops).
Moving on to this week, I've just noticed that I am due at at
steer Towers on Thurday and then it's
rosamicula 's leaving do. Saturday plans are being plotted as I type and will consist of the supreme tweeness that is the St Margarets Summer Fair. G and I go to this event every year like a pair of local stalwarts. I invariably come home with some hand made tat and last year we found some excellent old kitchen scales for a tenner. Other than that we normally loaf outside the beer tent watching teenybopper bands play their first gig and pointing at the local Z-list slebs. (This year I might cast an eye over the dog show, assuming the
wardytron hounds will be decked out in their finery...)
Well that's all from me because I have to finish my lunch and get on with things. (Apologies for not being very commenty of late. I've been reading sporadically but am just having a bit of a quiet phase.)

Date: 2010-07-07 09:45 am (UTC)I think most people find Chesterton a bit papist, but I think he's fab. I still keep meaning to read The Napoleon of Notting Hill, on Hester's recommendation.
