Good evening dear fiends!

In lieu of any proper posts from me recently, may I present a little tableau from the House of Geek?

5 mins ago, G walks into living room holding two smart phones...

Me:  "Gadge!"
G:  "Aaaahhhh...  Saviour of the universe!"
Me:  [joins in with the harmonies]
Both:  a little duet  (and some sheepish sniggering).

In other news, I've had a few chuckles this evening reading the #middleclassnightmares thread on Twitter.   Well worth a pre-Apprentice peek.

Other than that I've been shockingly un-internetty this week,  A terrible shame as I've had no end of inane drivel to share with you, dear LJers, but just no inclination to get it in words, out there on the interwebs.  However I think I might be in a very netty mood next week.  I can feel it coming on...

I think you may be right. This morning I knew without doubt that I had made a good man-choice when our espresso machine ran out of coffee beans (#middleclassnightmares) and G got out of bed and dashed to a local cafe... to spare me the horror of daily commute without caffeine. ("Bless!" does not cover it.)

Lay in a stock of the following:

Lyons Coffee Bags. Individually foil-wrapped, these are like giant teabags filled with ground coffee. Excellent for brewed coffee in an emergency, and these are what I used to take on holiday before I got the Handpresso.

ESE Pods. Keep a few in the cupboard just in case. Individually foil-wrapped pucks of espresso which fit in the portafilter (and of course in my handpresso). I tend to buy the Illy ones (which work out at 37p per shot), and the Waitrose ones (18p a shot).

Those Lyons bags sound like a useful backup plan.

(We used to use Senseo pods as an emergency back-up but our latest espresso machine is now so shrink-wrapped that there is no way to use anything other than beans in it)

Hang on - surely it would take ESE, though? They fit in my gaggia no problem.

I can't think where a pod would go...

Our old one had an arm with a recess for the coffee creamer (where you could substitute a pod if you wanted) but the new one is a shrink-wrapped "bean to cup" machine... you put beans in one end and coffee comes out of the other. All of the gubbins is hidden inside... with the exception of an LCD screen which issues bossy instructions and asks you what sort of coffee you would like.

(It looks a lot like this one, except black: http://www.procook.co.uk/images/library/stock/webbig/2783.jpg)

Oh I see. I didn;t realise it was one of those unnatural robotic things. You're right, nowhere for a pod of any description to go. Damn.

It's a bit like the mac version of a coffee machine... easy, shrink wrapped and idiot-proof, but no good at all when you want to get behind the scenes and tinker with something.

(I get very grumbly when I am on a mac and want to do something like move files around in iphoto, which the shiny, pointy-clicky user interface is not designed for)

This evening I got to play with an iPad. I hate myself for thinking this, but OMG it's so shiny and lovely.
