Dear fiends, I am in criminal mastermind heaven.  G has just opened his birthday presents from me, all wrapped in brown paper and string (because he likes that kind of thing.)

The presents included a framed old photograph, two graphic novels, a classic Italian cookbook and a set of food presentation rings.  The food rings had a little German logo on them that G mis-read as "Kitchen Poof " (so of course they will be  known as this henceforth).

The last present was a small, black velvet ring box.  I had a momentary attack of the evils and told G it was a sovereign ring.  For a fleeting moment he believed me and I read nothing less than fear on his little face.  But then he opened it and what the box really contained was a key, on a small silver, tubular keyring.

He looked at me with befuddlement for a few mins and then went back to studying the key...   thus discovering that the keyring was in fact a hollow tube containing a tiny strip of paper.

The message on the paper read:   The Times. 18th May 2010.  Read Carefully.

I am now watching the plot unfold from here...  (hee hee!)

Wish him luck.

Is it a treasure hunt? Exciting stuff! Is he really going to have to read the whole paper for his clue?

Is he having a buffy birthday? I bet you've hidden something in the DVD collection.

Ha! Did you look at the annoucement?

IT's ok, he is currently puzzling that very clue, though not in the dvd collection. (One of our 3 billion house computers is called Sunnydale... he had to fnd a file on there)

Of course not everyone here knows his secret name.

No problem for him to find a recently altered file I guess. Hehehe.... treasure hunts rock.

Just realised I should not post that on here in case he is reading.

I did one for him once before, about 4 or 5 years ago. It was absolutely HUGE with endless puzzles and went on all day. This one is a little more manageable, I think, but should be fun for a couple of hours.

That's _so_ cool; will you tell us the rest afterwards (or as he figures it out!)?

Yes, I will tell the rest (though some of it is probably a bit 'in joke'). It's a lot of fun to set up actually.

Brilliant!

Incidentally, I have no idea what a "food presentation ring" is. I imagine it's some kind of circus ring but for chefs. Clearly I'll never make it as a kitchen poof.

It makes me think of Fanny Craddock and her ludicrous concoctions.

The thought of you doing the same... hrm...
