What the hell is going on with my F'list?  Why are you all suddenly writing about fun runs and jogging and things like that?

I'm sure none of you ever mentioned this in your small print.

For every 'fun run' related post, can I demand a compensatory one to do with sex, food, espionage, sordid behaviour and all-round shallowness?

Love from me
x

I've never quite been able to get my head around the words "fun" and "run" being linked in any way, shape or form.

Heh, you and G both. (Like you, he has long pondered on the unlikely pairing of "fun" and "run") :-)

A "fun saunter" is about the most I could handle.

Agreed... especially if the saunter is studded with cafe breaks, cream teas and bimbly shopping opportunities :-)

Not me. You'll never find me running anywhere.

If it's any consolation, I've got a week off and in that time all I've done is slob around and knit (the weather has a large part to play in this).

Mmmm, that sounds like a heavenly week to me.
(I forgot to include "knitting" in my list of compensatory blog subjects!)

Hee! It is pretty good, but I feel a bit bad that I haven't gone out, or anything. I keep telling myself that the weather's so awful, there's no point in going out just to get wet and miserable :)

I may even update my other blogs... :-O

The trick, I have discovered, is to "decide" actively at the start of the day that you are going to slob out and knit. By doing so, it banishes the endless wavering feeling that you ought to be doing something else. (Feeling bad really undermines the experience of true slobbery.)

That's very true :)

I was going to pop in to Aberystwyth today to buy some more knitting needless, but I've decided against it. It's too much of a slog just for 3 pairs of needles that I probably won't use today anyway (seriously; parking's a mare and then I've actually got to GET to the shop).

I've reasoned that I'm going out tomorrow - probably to Hay-on-Wye - so I can get them then. Hence the fact that I'm still sitting here in my dressing gown... slob-a-rama.

I doubt very much it'll be a fun run, more like a pathetic crawl really. I am half thinking of doing it in evening dress though - complete with cocktail glass and shaker stuck to a tray. I am definitely not wearing pink though - apart from lipstick and nail polish that is.

Found some more vintage patterns for you earlier - nothing along the lines of knitting for kiddie fiddlers thankfully but some charming nostalgic whimsey instead. Lavenda seem to specialise in that kind of thing.

I hope to do some 'shallow' in a bit :-)

Ooh yes, evening dress would be marvellous! Could you get Mr Pops to walk beside you dressed as a butler? Then he can hold the tray while you take swigs throughout the 'run'.

(You are a star for finding all of these vintage patterns, by the way)

Alas not as it's an all lady race. But I'll deffo be taking a hip flask :-)

No worries re patterns - our local charity shop is my usual source but I'd cleaned them out until this morning when they'd a fresh delivery ie someone has a had a clear out of a dead relative's house. The knitting for kiddie fiddlers came from a vintage fair though. I also got Nigella's Feast this morning for a fiver. I've got all my Nigella cookbooks from there - I am queen of charity shop bargain finds.

You just can't beat the 'element of the unknown' thrill to be got from second-hand shopping.

Yup. And see how they've tried to get them to look 'hip' by getting a Patti-Smith-a-like and friend to model them.

ARGH!

I had to click on that link didn't I? I feel so ill now, they are infinitely worse than the knitting for kiddies fiddlers pants - he looked so thin and whispy you could have knocked him away but those two look positively malevolent and like they could back it up with force if need be.

I need so much brain bleach now.

Heh, I like your choice of word... I would agree that wearing those horrors in public, and posting pics on the internet is nothing short of malevolent!

By an astonishing coincidence, I was just looking at the Royal Parks Half-Marathon site, as it happens. Registration starts on Monday! I'm really quite tempted. If I do it, does that mean I have to do something horrendously debauched and exotically foul too?

Yes it does. And furthermore I feel confident that this will not pose too much of a challenge for you.

You're a special exception! (The guffaws I get from the depths of your sordid imaginings make up for 1000 fun runs)

*PS, I'm only kidding really, I was just amused by the sudden influx of running-related posts - all appearing in the same day*

Running is never fun - I hate it but take inspiration from Eddie Izzard and other reluctant athletes.

I used to write lots of posts about sex, food, espionage and sordidness, but like all my old posts, they're now archived for my bloodshot eyes only. All that debauched hedonism and lost weekends in Amsterdam etc is a distant memory since becoming responsible parents.*

* That's the official line anyway.

My other half would agree with you re: running. He's not a fan but is nevertheless quite good at just gritting his teeth and getting on with it when he's having a 'get fit' fad. He has even managed to drag me along on very rare occasions when temporary insanity takes over my brain. But sadly I have never lasted beyond a week or two.

As for locking up all of your sordid posts, I can only say I am sorry I
missed out on them!

I'm not, and have no plans to.

The closest I get to running is that I watched all 3 parts of the Eddie Izzard thing about his bonkers marathon efforts (seriously, he is both entirely mad and the most stubborn person on the planet. Admirable, but quite, quite mad...)

I do do a bit of walking, on the way to work and elsewhere on occasion - I'm not a total couch potato. I just don't Get running

I hear there is a high to be got from running... perhaps we are missing out. (But at least walking doesn't involve special shoes, sportswear and arriving everywhere sweaty).
