Love in a cold kitchen
Mar. 10th, 2010 09:50 pmFiends, have any of you read any Nancy Mitford? A few days ago I listened to a recording of The Write Stuff which had Nancy Mitford as its theme. After hearing several excerpts of her works read aloud, I commented to G that she sounded wildy entertaining and must go on my 'to read' list...
This evening I arrived home from work and was bereft to find my kitchen manless, with nobody making my dinner. G is working increasingly "not from home" these days and didn't get home until 8-ish, by which time I was mid-way through chef duty on some cauliflower cheese. This must be what it felt like for men when feminism first kicked in...
Anyway, after din dins I wandered into the living room and found a surprise pressie on the table, labelled "Happy Wednesday". Bless him! It was a lovely pair of Nancy Mitford paperbacks... The Pursuit of Love and Love in a Cold Climate. (Specifically these copies, with fabulous covers: www.amazon.co.uk/Pursuit-Love-Nancy-Mitford/dp/0141044012/ref=sr_1_12 and www.amazon.co.uk/Love-Cold-Climate-Nancy-Mitford/dp/0141043997/ref=sr_1_9
I think these will be next in line for reading once I get through the last of the Stieg Larssons. (I've borrowed the hardback and is it like a ten tonne brick in my handbag).
So.... are any of you planning to watch the film of Girl with Dragon Tattoo next week?

Date: 2010-03-11 01:32 pm (UTC)Not sure. It's such a faff to get a decent cinema nowadays, and so damned expensive, and half the time the audience are godawfully behaved (although it doesn't matter quite so much with this film if the audience is noisy 'cos of the subtitles!) Then again, is it the sort of film that would need a cinema screen? I doubt it would lose much on DVD, not being an effects-driven blockbuster...
