For your amusement and delectation, [info]ms_siobhan has kindly supplied me with yet more horrors from the ever fruitful world of vintage knitting. God bless the charity shops of Leeds!

This time we are in the 1980s - a decade I remember well. But, with the exception of the knit-your-own-Sloane kit, am having trouble remembering a time when any of these things would have been considered acceptable...

Exhibit 1...  (my real question here is this: who on earth looked at the child in this picture and thought... "By Jove! It's a modelling career for you...")

Exhibit 2...  (in reaction to the 'bow tie' legwarmers, I can only quote Siobhan and say WTF?)

Exhibit 3...  (here we have the aforementioned 'Knit Your Own Sloane' kit)

Exhibit 4...  (Good god.  I mean, really.  If there is any justice in this world, then Jacinta is now living in a maximum security faciity, far far away from pointy sticks...)

I love your comment about the child model in the first one, and am wholheartedly with you on the Jacinta front too, judging by the look on the man's face in the picture I'm wondering if she's dead thoughas he looks fit to kill, and after making him wear that jumper I reckon she'd be number one on his hit list. We can but hope eh?

I shall keep my eyes peeled for more gems.

Thank you so much for sending these. I had a major chuckle at your comments. I suspect the Jacinta model thinks he looks all mean and moody... but it's kind of hard to credit in that jumper.

Jacinta's lady jumper is actually rather nice. Maybe she liked her men feminine?

Strange what people used to wear in the 80s...

"Maybe she liked her men feminine?"

Didn't everyone in the 80s? I certainly had a flutter for Nick Rhodes in his frosted pink lippy. And David Sylvian was barely distinguishable from Lady Di...

The jumper the guy in the 4th photo is wearing is the same design as my bathroom mat ... you know it may just be that jumper with the sleeves cut off!

Heh... that is a dark and disturbed imagination you have there, my favourite sort. (Do you think they might come from Royston Vasey?)
