Someone on Ravelry came upon a truly outstanding vintage knitting book from the 1980s.  It features slebs-of-the-day in a series of jumpers so dreadful they will make your eyeballs bleed. 
 
If Joanna Lumley were dead, she'd be turning in her grave.. . (as it is, I am amazed she has not made it her business to seek out and burn every copy in circulation).

I agree with you there... I can't picture Richar Briers any other way than in a cosy old 'captain capable' chunky brown jumper.
