...the reason for this strange behaviour?
 
Our TV in the living room may be suffering from a demonic posession.    At 2:15 pm every day, even when it is being used as a PC monitor, it switches back into TV mode, tunes into ITV and starts showing either Murder She Wrote, or Diagnosis Murder - depending on what day it is.

Ummm, anybody?

Maybe it's an obscure setting somewhere? My computer used to switch itself on when the land line rang, which turned out to be a setting that made it activate when the phone rang. Very useful, since you couldn't use dial-up and the phone at the same time anyway!

Does the TV have an "Alarm" feature -- some do. The idea is it wakes you by turning the TV on.

I suppose the theme tune on Murder She Wrote could be an alarm of sorts.. (I said to G earlier that it sounds like a sped up version of The Antiques Roadshow)

No, I mean some TV sets have the function to operate as an alarm clock and switch on to a particular channel at a particular time. I've been startled awake in a hotel room by the TV suddenly turning on loudly at 5am. I managed to discover the reason (I guess the previous occupant had done it as a joke).
