A couple of weeks ago my personal dealer in knitting-related comedy (aka [info]ms_siobhan ) sent me a couple of vintage gems in the post, that she had found while market surfing.  It would be rude not to share...

The first one is quietly terrifying...

In particular - this man is giving me nightmares.  (He is destined to become my new avatar for posts where I want to be very scary indeed.)

The second one is... er...  well...  what can I say?

I may as well just zoom right in on the obvious bit and ask: do any of you have a cute little Aryan child for whom I can knit a golliwog hat?  (What?  No???  Really??  Oh go on... You know it's what all the cool kids are wearing.)

I'm glad it's not just me...

PS... totally off topic, but thank you for recommending the Bleeding Heart Bistro... I am a bit squiffy and have just arrived home, but it was a FABULOUS venue and I have had a wonderful evening :-)

Would def go there again.

Glad you liked it. I don't know many restaurants in London, but I've been lucky.

I work with someone who's in his fifties and has hair like that. It's terrifying.

I often want to ask people... WHERE do you even go to get hair like that in this day and age???

(There is a woman at work who dresses like Lady Di from 1982 and I would love to ask her the same Q... cos the shop that sells her outfits is a mystery to me)

OMG - can you sneak a picture of her or in the unlikely event of me coming to that London engineer an introduction? I'd love to meet her. I think clothes like that come from a mix of dead relatives wardrobes and very small old fashioned department stores of the kind found in places like Axminster and Bridport ie seaside-ish retirement type places.

Heh, I suspect you're right about the department stores, there is one like it in Sidmouth!

Last time I saw her she had on a box pleated skirt, loafers and a white blouse with a high frill around the neck and a string of pearls. It was 100% purest Diane, you'd have loved it. :-)

Knowing him only superficially I'd suggest it was hair that looked cool when he still cared about such things. He's now a socks-and-sandals academic so presumably cares much less.

I wonder if we are all destined to go this way... (maybe we already have and just don't realise it!) A lot of people certainly appear to just stop, fashion-wise, at whatever era they deem to have been their hey-day and from that point on simply refuse to move with the times.

I'm sure that's what has happened to the Di-alike at my work (she's about the right age, looks and poshness to have been a super-hot sloane in the early 80s... )

But really... maintaining a hairdo like the scary chap above takes *work*. There must be little barber shops all over the place, quietly carrying out these blow-dried quaffs, like a black market.

Hairdressers too. I go to one! My hair has been the same since the 80s too, and I like it like that. Luckily long hair isn't so easy to date. (You could call that classic or timeless, or just plain untrendy ;-)

I think it helps somewhat to have hair of the Donald Trump brillo pad variety.

Makes you wonder how much it shrinks in the wet - the way a wet cat looks so pathetically skinny, he's probably practically bald...

Heh, I am just as bad... have had the same 'classic' hairdo for donkey's years :-)

I actually can't look at Donald Trump without my eyeballs bleeding. I think he may be the most disturbing looking man currently walking the planet...
