Is it over yet?
Dec. 30th, 2008 07:28 pmHello cruel world. How were your christmases? Hope you all had fun.
I'm just starting to resurface after an Xmas marred by all-round ickness. An alien took over my body on 23rd December, gave me a fever and in return stole my appetite for food, alcohol, coffee and life in general... (given all of that, Christmas spirit didn't stand much of a chance.) Why the feck did this have to happen at Xmas? My favourite thing about christmas is the food and special dinners. The lovely christmas eve dinner that I couldn't even look at, and the Xmas day roasties that stayed uneaten on my plate... it's enough to make me weep.
Theoretically, I ought to be slim and detoxed by now, given a whole week of lemsip and berocca and not much else, but now my appetite is back I thoroughly intend to make up for things. Curries seem to be hitting the spot rather nicely... Last night G made a gorgeous Thai red curry that has set me well on the road to recovery. Yum yum. Still not back on coffee though... it still tastes weird.
I've spent most of this week wrapped up on the sofa with cat on lap and fire burning, watching old movies and back-to-back episodes of Come Dine With Me (ooh it's SUCH a guilty pleasure!) I also watched The Spiderwick Chronicles on DVD, which was pretty good.
Today G dragged me out "for a walk" against my will. I skulked along like a truculent teenager trying to sulk and doing my best to ignore the fact that it was the most beauiful, blue, crisp and frosty day we've had in months, and Marble Hill park was like a christmas card and the river was shining with light and all of the cute dogs and ducks along the tow path were performing to the best of their ability. I didn't manage to keep my miserable behaviour up for long. The sale-ridden Richmond shops at the end of the walk were a bit of a flop though... nothing much took my fancy despite my unseemly willingness to part with money. I practially ran around waving notes, but to not much avail.
So what are you all planning for new year? I'm not gonna do anything much... I don't really DO new year these days and I certainly can't be arsed making resolutions. It's just *joyous* to be off work :-) Plus I have The Tales of Beedle The Bard to read and am halfway through Tamara Drewe and have not yet finished killing all of the endangered species in Lara's latest haunts and haven't even got Dead Space out of its wrapping yet.
My sister is staying with a croupier at the moment and is suggesting bringing him round for a night of card games chez moi... how cool is that! He might teach us how to play Baccarat... (is there a cooler profession on the planet than being a croupier? If so, what?)
