Yes, I do need to get a life
Dec. 4th, 2008 10:47 amHeroes... this series is in serious need of a backbone. If they press the 'undo' button one more time I am switching off and sulking and never coming back. (Though I'd quite like to press undo on the 'Hiro thinks he's ten' storyline). Series one had balls. Series two had occasional, baby-sized, balls. Series three is nothing but polyfilla. Surely it's high time to kill someone off... ideally the tediously earnest Peter Petrelli. (Last night's heartfelt, whispery "I need to know if I can be a hero without my powers" almost made me regurgitate my wine.) If not him then get rid of Sylar - it's time for a new villain. The only character with any real edge is Claire's dad (a total psycho, I love him!)
Sarah Connor Chronicles... I *almost* love it. I really *want* to love it. But I so miss Linda Hamilton. She would totally kick Lena Headey's arse, even if she had to use her zimmer frame. If we have to endure one more episode of Sarah staring angstily into the middle distance I might scream. And why on earth do the writers think that we care about the tiresomely teenage inner turmoil of John... it's not a soap opera, FFS. This week's episode was brightened up considerably by Cameron tying her fellow cyborg into a bone-cracking knot. That and the eminently watchable Shirley Manson. So it's not all bad... but they owe us some click-clack noises next week.
I do wish things didn't always have to go in this cycle...
1. a talented writer has a brilliant idea for a series
2. series one is a rave success and gets you hooked
3. series two is written by a team whose primary aim is ongoing revenue generation
4. series three makes you die inside...
Still, I am ever the optimist and have high hopes for T4

(In case you're not quite as desperately sad and geeky as me, I am referring to the fact that he played Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire :-p)
heroic endevaours
Date: 2008-12-05 05:25 pm (UTC)I'm gearing up for the battle between the goodies and baddies - but wait, do we really know who the goodies and baddies are - is Angela good and Arthur bad, or is this simply too twee. In true comic book style it's the supposed light v dark - and maybe the writers are challenging our patience if nothing else.
but I loved the meta fictional tale of the comic shop last night - pretty clever way of reminding us this is a comic reality.

Date: 2008-12-05 07:25 pm (UTC)G says the problem with Peter and Sylar is that they're both too powerful, which causes the writers to need silly plot devices all the time to try and manufature a sense of danger for the two of them... even though there is no sign that either of 'em will ever do the decent thing and die!
I spose Sylar is less boring than the fat cop though... so not all bad.
