A handdddbag??
Nov. 12th, 2011 05:33 pmYesterday, I shlepped across London to visit the Country Living Xmas fair at Angel. (Many thanks to
perfectly_vague, who scored free tix for me and my fiend Melanie).
Apart from the fact that it was HIDEOUSLY busy (I mean properly mobbed, even on a weekday... doesn't anybody have jobs any more?), it was fabulous. Billions of stalls selling xmasy/crafty/housey/fashioney/whimsical swag. We ended up staying there far longer than intended and hanging many shopping bags off the pram handles.
Anyway it's been ages since I did a proper shopping porn post. So here we go...
Stuff I got...
1. Most splurgey item of the day was this huge tweed handbag <3

I was powerless before it, mainly because
a) it is beautifully handmade from Harris tweed
b) it is grey
c) it is big and roomy without too many pointless compartments,
And in case you're wondering how big it is...

2. Lots of pictures for Microboy's future bedroom. The Winnie the Pooh pic is a from a small company that rescues and frames illustrations from damaged children's books and sells for very reasonable prices. This only cost £19 including the frame. The animal pics are all small prints by the same artist (I added the frames myself)

3. Pretty pretty!
How gorge is this necklace? It's handmade from coloured threads by a brilliant crafter who sells at Camden Lock. I think this craft is tatting... but I'm not sure.

4. Whimsy whimsy
I got six of these glass baubles and three sets of surprisingly bright battery-powered white lights.

Stuff I lusted after but didn't get...
1. Mini-vintage pedal car!!
Can you picture Microboy in his chap outfit pedalling around in this? I so nearly purchased it... but it's for children aged 2-6. If this remains available it well might become Jim-jam's second birthday present. There are loads more, equally cool ones here at Kind Toys (wacky races anyone?)

2. Beautiful prints by Sarah Woolfenden.
This artist is based in Devon and exhibits her stunning pen and ink drawings at various galleries. But you can also buy giclee prints here for between £90 and £130. I was sorely tempted....

3. Almost everything by jewellery designer Michael Michaud...
I've admired his occasional pieces that are stocked at the V&A shop, but yesterday I saw a huge range and loved just about all of it. He specialises in natural forms, making garnets look like cherries or a row of pearls look like peas in a pod. If you're interested you can see more of his jewellery here... Love the Rain

Date: 2011-11-12 05:45 pm (UTC)My Christmas splurge is likely to be next week's Steiner School Advent fair, which is basically an excuse to pretend to be a hippy for a couple of hours and admire the lovely handcrafted things they sell (and indulge in the cheap veggie food).
