Lord, I feel for this poor hot boy.  I've got him propped up in front of a fan wearing nothing but his nappy, and yet he could not look more hot and bothered.

That and the fact that he's suddenly developed a sore-looking rash on his forehead (I hope it's not eczema) and is simultaneously peeling on his hands and his face.  Apparently this is a rite of passage for late babies, caused by being cooked for too long in amniotic fluid.  (I think it's time to baste him in a tiny bit of olive oil... )

Meanwhile I have discovered that my new role in life is to be a full-time milk maid...  I might have to start wearing plaits over my ears.

Oh poor little fellow.

You could add some make-up and bandages and turn him into Zombie Baby.

It's very cool in the flat here and blistering outside, so if you want to come over and bimble between the two feel free. I could do with the distraction, really.

I'd love to come over, except I'm surgically attached to my breast pump at the moment (trying desperately to get my milk production up to what it should be - sorry if TMI!)

Are you around later this week for a lazy day?

Oh the poor little pet lambkins :-( Still the weather is set to break tomorrow and it should be back to more easily bearable temperatures.

If you start wearing plaits you also need to have a yoke and talk in a singsong Heidi accent like in the tv series from many moons ago ;-)

I remember that... (though I seem to recall thinking that Heidi needed a bit of a slap)

There's a (rather pricey) organic ointment for sore babies called, I think, Hope's Miracle... it's in Wholefoods on High Street Ken, and was the only thing that worked for little XJ when she was brand new. All the other creams that got recommended were evil horrible chemical things and this is full of lovely calendula and honey (as far as I recall). Poor little J.

The rain is heading your way, I'm sure, so he will be cooler soon.

Thanks for that. I have seen people recommending olive oil, but I shall peruse the ingredients and see if this stuff is worth a go

Oh poor little fellow. Babies regulate their own temperatures so badly - perhaps a damp flannel, laid on his tum or forehead? Although watch it, as that and the fan together will make him feel too cool rather quickly.

Yes, on cooler days, when it feels as though we're wrapping him in too many layers, I have to keep reminding myself that he doesn't have the ability to get warm all by himself.

Right. Although the same applies to cooling down, of course. That old surface area : volume ratio.

Oh, poor little Glen. Anyway, how's Ruprecht?

Ok, that gave me my best snigger of the week.

You could try Starflower (borage) cream; it's been specially formulated for babies and doesn't contain any nasties. I developed some nasty, plague-like eczema on my face last Friday, bought some of this on Saturday, and you can barely see it now - it's taken the itch away and is very soothing. You can get it via Amazon. x

Ohdamnit; I've just looked again - it's for infants aged 3 months and over. Ah well, if he needs it later, at least you've got the reference. Olive oil it is, then...

Thanks for the tip though, it sounds ideal for when he is older

It's definitely very gentle but very effective. I'm allergic to all kinds of additives and soaps, but this stuff is glorious. Hope James' skin calms down soon.
