Good afternoon, fiends.  It's my lovely G's birthday today, though sadly this hasn't allowed him to take a day off from his crazy work deadlines, so we've been fitting in little bouts of celebration on his breaks and will be going out for dinner later.  I made us some breakfast of bagels with smoked salmon and cream cheese and then he set himself to work and I faffed around in the kitchen for hours making a light lunch and a fancy cake.

I used this recipe for a white chocolate and strawberry cake and would def recommend it if you like that sort of thing.  The cake turned out tall and fantabulous - a proper frou frou gateau, containing LUDICROUS amounts of calories.  It is delicious but I'm feeling too bone idle to take a photo.

We saved cards and pressie-opening until after lunch, where I presented G with the usual pile of man-nonsense (le Creuset kitchen gimperie, headphones, books off his wishlist and aftershave) and now he's gone back to work and my body is trying to drag me back into nap-ville.  I have things to do, but I really can't be bothered.  I've totally run out of energy this week.  I can't even be bothered to listen to my hypnosis relaxation CD... could a greater laziness actually exist?

This evening we've booked a table at a Nepalese restaurant in Kew that we've never been to before... hope it's nice.  It's called RaRa, which means I've been continuously song-virused with both Rasputin and Bad Romance ever since making the booking.

Hmmm... it really is all just food isn't it?  Do I ever talk about anything else?  I sometimes wonder if all of the other events in my life are just filler activities between eating.

Insomnia continues unabated...  nothing unusual for 3rd trimester - I get short bursts of sleep broken by compulsory loo breaks every 2 hours or so.  Lately I've become used to sitting up in bed reading my kindle between 4am - 5:30am.  On a good day I eventually fall back to sleep again until 7-ish.   My other kindle (the furry one) keeps me company in the lone quiet hours.  They're habitual little beasties - Truffle comes running for a cuddle whenever I get up for the loo, and Harriet arrives for her love-in when I get back into bed.  I usually wake up later to find Truffle on my feet.  (It's naughty of me to encourage them because I'm supposed to be getting them used to not being allowed in the bedroom once Rup is sleeping in there... but the spirit is weak.).

This week I really must practice with my TENS machine.  I've hired one from my antenatal teacher and she says it's important to be properly au fait with it before you go into labour, as they all work slightly differently and they work better if you start early and know what you're doing.  (Interestingly there is not a great deal of scientific proof that TENS machines work, but the anecdotal evidence appears to be strong.  I suppose it's worth a try - and in truth don't really care if it is a placebo, as long as I *think* it works at the time.)

In news of much dullness, G and I have more or less chosen a pram.  Basically it's the smallest one in the shop - and one that I am capable of putting up and down with my pathetic weakling arms.  Even on special offer the price tag is nothing short of eye-watering, but we're taking comfort in the apparent resale value.  (I've been scouring the second-hand market for one in the hope of a bargain, but people hardly knock anything off the price, even after 2+ years of use.)

Meanwhile I still haven't packed my hospital bag and suspect I will not have done it by this time tomorrow either.  (Not sure what is going on in my head, but my failure to do it is verging on wilful).

Well... this load of aimless witter has done quite a good job of keeping me awake and has almost given me a second wind.    I fear it might have had the opposite effect on you, dear readers...  I do apologise.  I hope at least that you are having Wednesdays as fine as can be and will soon be skipping out of work for fun and games.

Many Happy Returns to G :-)

Prams are outrageously expensive aren't they? When my sister had had the little fellah, my Dad rang me up all giddy because he had won 'a travel system' on Ebay for a fiver. A bargain. Only snag was, it was in York and they're in Jersey. Cue lovely Foxy76 picking it up for us and me having all sorts of fun trying to get it couriered to Jersey. Famous companies claimed never to have heard of the Channel Islands nor would they accept my protestations that it can't be that heavy as I'm not a very big or strong lady and I could carry it no problem. My Dad sorted out a courier from his end (funnily enough it was one of the companies that I had asked who said they had no idea where the Channel Islands FFS were) and it was delivered for less than £60. At £65 and with all the faff it was still a steal compared to buying a brand new one on the island.

Mr Pops used a tens machine when his back was really bad, I had a go of it and it was like my shoulders were being pinched and thumped by very tiny imps.

Eeep, I shall look forward to that :-)

Your dad got a serious bargain. (G pointed out the other day that the pram will be worth more than his car)

Yep, it did become known as the 'fecking ebay pram' though as the tooing and frooing with courier companies meant it was in our living room where we repeatedly stubbed our toes on it or stumbled on it for longer than planned. Brezeska tried to sleep in it a few times too.
