On a marginally related topic...  

I've been vaguely watching season 2 of Glee - with the sinking realisation that any trace of comedic edge has been shredded, stamped on and thrown into the sea.  And, dear god, is there anything on earth creepier than The Warblers?   Whenever they start formation dancing in school uniform it's like some horrible, nightmarish vision of Dead Poets from Stepford, inducing the same level of arm-chewing horror in me as the episodes that feature Will singing and dancing (shudder).  And as if that were not enough - the camera cuts relentlessly to Kurt's rapt, grinning puppet face, looking like little other than the ventriloquists's dummy from Magic.  (Argh!)

I really don't get the weirdness that people seem to feel about breastfeeding -- I mean there can be a slight "oops eyeslippage" if someone you know is breastfeeding and you're talking to them. But I don't see what's even strange (except in the most banal sense of unusual) about the grandmother (who's probably only about 40 given that the daughter is 13) breastfeeding the grandchild. The concept of a "wetnurse" used to be a really common one. Seriously, what is it about this that freaks people out?

I don't think most people have any weirdness about breastfeeding (apart from when the baby is coming home from school for a dose...)

The comments on that thread with the grandmother/granddaughter do suggest that a certain number of people do have weirdness about it.

e.g. "I can't believe all of the twisted people on here encouraging this weirdo to breastfeed her GRANDCHILD."

or

"OMG your sick.what sick twisted way will your "granbaby" grow up."

or

"that's gross."

I just don't get it.
