Killing me softly
Mar. 15th, 2011 12:48 pmEeeeeh! I've finally caught up with The Killing and can barely fall asleep at night for pondering whodunnit. Four more episodes to go... I don't know if I can bear the tension. I need to plan some coping strategies for when it's all over... (perhaps I should knit Ruprecht a mini Sarah Lund sweater to help fill the empty, Lundless hours).
Other than that, I'm itching to resurrect my chemistry set and make some fresh batches of soap before I run out of time for such whimsy. A few of you old-timers may remember when I used to do this obsessively, with all manner of herbs and essential oils that made the house smell gorgeous for weeks. And there's something infinitely pleasing about the sight of lovely racks of artisan soap bars curing. But, as with many of my creative obsessions, I lapsed. I think my last big batch was probably about 5 years ago, so I suppose it must be high time to make some more... and maybe even some candles, while I am at it. I just need to find a way of kitten-proofing my work space! (Unfortunately I may not get a chance for any of this for several weeks and am trying to shake off the fear that 3rd trimester tiredness/lethargy is going to kick in before I'm able to get all of these crazy, creative urges out of my system.)
For now I shall have to content myself with eating another slice of the latest of Jane's *gorgeous* cakes. (This time a delightfully moist apple and cinnamon concoction that I can't stay away from)

I haven't forgotten my pledge to make you something - I'm just waiting for an especially juicy Jeremy Kyle episode to put it together to.

On Twitter, Charlie Brooker was saying that there's a Dutch crime show called Spiral also worth checking out for any Killing fans.

Date: 2011-03-15 01:45 pm (UTC)I think Spiral is French, but I may be wrong, as I haven't seen it. Apparently it is up to season 3, which will replace the slot left by The Killing. (Am wondering whether the seasons are stand-alone enough to give it a go without having seen 1 and 2...)

Date: 2011-03-15 01:48 pm (UTC)Remember I said I made six muffin sized cakes with the same mixture? I just microwaved one for my friend Mary, straight from frozen(the cake, not her) and served it with a dollop of Greek yoghurt mixed with a splash of whiskey and some orange sugar. She had a sort of prolonged cakegasm and ate another one ten minutes later. She's taken the rest away with her. I shall have to make some more.
It would be good if you had some in the freezer for Ruprecht-feeding emergencies.

Date: 2011-03-16 10:02 am (UTC)I have to say, given that the series has been and gone in Denmark, I'm v. impressed by the lack of spoilers circling around the internet (or at least no obvious ones that I have seen).

Date: 2011-03-16 10:13 am (UTC)The worst man-hair, by a landslide, is Sarah's ex husband. His barber should be struck off! And Vagn's is not much better... so yes, I think you have a point there.
