Hmmm, well I have to tell you, fiends, that our dinner in Osteria Ai Assassini last night was a bit 'meh'.

Thursday night chez Assassini is 'Baccala night' and G and I both went for the chef's special platter. This is the second time I've had a go on the Venetian speciality of salt cod with polenta. And I'm afraid it is probably also my last.

Last night's platter involved four dollops of salt cod done in different ways, arranged around an equal dollop of wet polenta. If I were to be very unkind, I might say that it was not entirely distinguishable from 5 dollops of beige baby food... or even (wince) some jars of Heinz sandwich filling from the 1980s. Sorry Venezia! (Um, the starters were lovely though...)

Mama Hazan, I should never have doubted you. Tonight is going to involve a dedicated return to fresh vegetables and oven-cooked goodness, mama-style.

Other than that we're going to mooch away our last day and then sort out the apartment ready for handing the keys back tomorrow morning. We might also try again at visiting Peggy G's art collection.

Sara Lou has done such a lovely job of supplying kitten-love in my absence that scaredy little Truffle has become her dedicated lap cat. I suspect my babies will be most underwhelmed to witness my return.

Anyway, 'tis the end of the week for all of us. I hope you all have fabulous Fridays.

I heart Heinz Sandwich Spread - it was such a treat when I was little and I loved its tart salady creamy tiny chunks of vegetableness.

When I bought a fifties style picnic basket we had a very traditional picnic in it - sandwich spread and corned beef and v finely chopped onion sandwiches, hard boiled eggs and tunnocks teacakes.

Hope you have a lovely last day of your jollies and a safe journey home and here's hoping Harriet and Truffle smother you in kitteny goodness when you get back.

Not sure about the sandwich spread... but you had me at Tunnocks Tea Cakes (Mmmm!)

I've purchased a lovely big pile of veggies and mozarella and marinated anchovies for tonight, so that I can play in mama-Sue's kitchen again while G gets on with some work. (Am training to be a housewife!)

Hope you've got a lovely weekend planned. I can't wait for my dose of kitteny goodness :-)

Marinated anchovies = food of the gods :-)

Have got a fab weekend lined up ta - fingers crossed. Meal out with friend tonight for her birthday (coffee and walnut cake awaiting icing in the kitchen - sadly it didn't rise as well as Alex and richards so I'll have to turn it upside down to ice it but the bit that fell off tasted very good) Leeds Feline Friends Spring Fair tomorrow morning and Choral Recital at Leeds Parish Church and lovely old black and white film at Photography Museum on Sunday :-)
