Sunday morning - a few pics
Mar. 6th, 2011 01:57 pmSigh. I think I am in heaven today... we're just flopping out in the apartment after a lengthy bimble around the Dorsoduro district. The weather has surprised us by being utterly beautiful! We set out in coats and woolies but it was so warm earlier that G had to strip down to his t-shirt. (Having followed the forecast, we'd come expecting greyness and drizzle, but miraculous spring has sprung, if only for today). I believe it will become a bit colder tomorrow...
A lot of the central areas are crowded as hell right now, due to the combination of carnevale and influx of weekend trippers. Last night was crazy... revellers everywhere. It's fun to pop in to the chaos for short spells and marvel at the spectacle - but also very relieving to be able to get away from it into the solitude of quiet canals, just off the beaten track. Tuesday is Mardi Gras and I hear there will be a big finale in San Marco at midnight... I expect we will go for a peek :-)
The apartment right now is flooded with light and most of the rooms overlook a pretty little canal. With all of the windows open, we're loafing here listening to church bells and gondolas going by. (The one going by right now has a cheesy operatic singer on it, playing the accordian!)
Here are a few pics from this morning:

Towards the end of our wander we happened upon a supermarket and have duly stocked up on mystery fish, some huge ravioli and a pile of vegetables to cook over the next day or two... (plus some terribly un-italian maple syrup so that I can satisfy Ruprecht's crazed pancake desires). I think Ruprecht might also be treated to a spritz later on...
Hope you're all having lovely restful weekends.
