Last night I saw a trailer for what looks like the worst rom-com ever made.  Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman embarking on a "comedic" sex-only relationship.  I predict a charisma vacuum on a scale of Matthew Mahogany + Ikea Knightley.

What on earth is the appeal of Ashton Kutcher?  He looks like a half-witted toddler in a man's body.  (Am I just old?)

Mind you, sometimes even the old classics fall over on this.  Last week G and I watched An Affair to Remember, starring Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr and were struck by the total lack of on-screen chemistry between the two of them.  (I think Deborah Kerr was woefully miscast, as she was supposed to be playing a nighclub singer turned "kept woman"...  but seemed be doing an impression of an extra-prim Julie Andrews for most of it.)

You ARE old. I'd so do Ashton Kucher. He looks liek he'd bruise easily.

Not sure about Kutcher but I'd do Matthew Mahogany no bother. I'd say he's deadly craic with his bong/bongos.

He'd have to spend a full year far away from sunbeds before I'd consider it

He was actually really good in The Butterfly Effect.

He seems like a bright man who's very good at playing a teenage Keanu Reeves circa Bill and Ted.

Seconded - I haven't seen him in anything else, but he was good in that film (which was in itself surprisingly good).

I can't remember whether I've seen that... (but really? Is he bright in real life?)

Dropped out of a degree in biochemical engineering to become an actor.

Yes, he's obviously better when he's not doing "comedy" (much like Jim Carrey, actually; I can't stand him when he's trying to be funny, but in his rare serious roles, like Man in the Moon and the Truman Show, he's actually not bad).

Natalie Portman is one of my least favourite actresses (though she was good in Black Swan). Along with Ms Shiteley.

The very words 'romantic comedy' is enough to send me running to the hills.

Did Cary Grant have chemistry with any lady, really?

yeah... I'm not sure what the problem is with Natalie P. She just fails to engage me, somehow. (I haven't seen Black Swan, so I might take that back if she is as good as the rumours indicate)

As for Cary Grant - probably no! I bet he just spent his life getting away with it by being cast opposite leading ladies with a proper bit of sass.
