Trifling things
Dec. 24th, 2010 12:35 pmOoh, I am feeling thoroughly gleeful!
A couple of weeks ago, while I was lugging my ten-tonne handmade wreath and several bags of shopping home from Chiswick, I spotted a beautiful trifle bowl in a shop window. It was exactly what I'd been looking for for years... plain glass, not too wide, with tall sides and a pedestal. But at the time I just couldn't face lugging it home on top of all the other shopping, so I decided to go without.
Anyway I regretted it this morning as I was lying in bed, pondering the fact that our only glass bowl for xmas trifle has a big chip in it. So I decided to pop round to the litle gift shop round the corner to see what they had. And, lo and behold, they had exactly the same trifle bowl in stock, and it wasn't even that expensive! It was meant to be mine!
I must have looked like a cautionary tale-in-waiting as I walked back home. (Pregnant woman teetering and sliding over the ice while carrying a large glass bowl and a bottle of wine... all that was missing was a banana skin). But I am in one piece and ready to get on with stuffs.
Today's tasks are to make the bottom half of the trifle, do the cranberry sauce and whatever other prep is possible for tomorrow's trimmings. Then we have to get the place all candlelit and tidy so that people can come and mess it up later on a grand scale.
Hope you are all having lovely, peaceful xmas eves, with or without snow.
