First of all, I want to tell you all about my life-changing purchase. Have any of you been to a Clas Ohlson? It's a bit like a cross between Ikea Marketplace and Woolworths, with a bit of Robert Dyas thrown in. G and I bimbled around the one in Kingston at the weekend and I spotted a little stepping-stool (see pic below). It's about 8 inches high and is the sort of thing that people buy in order to help children reach the bathroom sink. Anyway when I stood on it in the shop in my 3-inch boots I suddenly became eye-to-eye with G, which was delightfully novel, so I put it in our basket.
Since we bought it, my kitchen life has been a revelation. Not only can I now reach the stuff on top of the fridge, but I can reach the wine glasses on the high shelf in the cupboard with ease! Previously I used to make G turn green by using a large chef's knife to flick them out of the cupboard and catch them below in my left hand. (Either that or ask Sara Lou to get them down for me.)
What else? Well... right now I am feeling a twinge of sadness because I've just washed and folded a bag of clothes that Microboy has grown out of. Nawwww.... as I was folding them I thought "he'll never wear these teeny tiny sleep suits again". It do make me sad. :-(
On a more cheerful note, G made the most blindingly gorgeous sausage casserole this evening with cider and russet apples. I really love russets - and I wonder if it might be because they taste a little bit like pears. Also, in case any of you foodie types are remotely interested <ponce alert> we bought some "heritage" potatoes from Waitrose with deep red skins, called something like Duke of York and the packet says to roast or bake them, but I can vouch for the fact that they make absolutely OUTSTANDING mash. Really fluffy and perfect. Get some! </ponce alert>
On another diff topic, do any of you listen to the Round Britain Quiz on Radio 4? G and I have been listening recently to some back episodes on podcast and are finding it a bit like Only Connect only even more esoteric. The thing I really can't believe is that there is a thread on Ravelry.com full of people claiming that it is 'dumbed down'. Like - seriously? Compared to what? I think it's pretty damned hard myself, and G and I have to use pause all the time to give ourselves time to think. Are we being thick or what?
I see from my last post that Otto has won the knitting vote, though it was a close run thing with Greta. I wonder if the answer is to make both of them...
Well I suppose that's enough ramble for a late evening. I might just have a lil glass of splish before bed. Happy dreams everyone!
